About Markdown Viewer

Markdown Viewer shows how Markdown will look once formatted. Paste text or open an .md file, and the preview updates as you type, including GitHub-style tables, task lists and code blocks.

It is useful for checking a README before you publish it, reading a Markdown file without an editor, or converting Markdown to HTML you can copy. Scripts and other unsafe content in a file are removed before it is displayed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open an MD file?
Select Open file and choose your .md file. It opens in your browser, with the formatted result next to the source. No software needs to be installed.
Does it support GitHub Flavored Markdown?
Yes. Tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code blocks and automatic links are all supported.
Is it safe to open a Markdown file from someone else?
The rendered output is sanitized, so scripts and unsafe links are removed. Images in the file still load from wherever they are hosted, which those hosts can see.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your files are read by your browser and are never uploaded, stored or sent to a server.
